Primatte is a technology that is used to extract a single color background from an image and create a transparency matte that allows the user to put the extracted foreground onto a different background. This is a process known as 'chromakeying.' It is commonly used in the motion picture and television industries to composite different elements photographed at different times and under different conditions and put them together into a single scene.
PRIMATTE LICENSING BUG CAUSES PROBLEMS
PHOTRON USA, Inc., today announced that Primatte®, their world-class high-end chromakey plug-in, available for all major compositing, editing and DI applications, has had a major bug in their licensing code that was not discovered until today, March 17, 2010. The problem only occurs in the Autodesk Media & Entertainment versions of Primatte for Inferno, Flame, Flare, Flint, Fire and Smoke.
An immediate solution to the problem is to replace the current sparkPrimatte plug-in with a new one available on the www.primatte.com web site under "Downloads". It is labeled as "SPECIAL TEMPORARY VERSION sparkPrimatte V3 for all IFFFS versions (32 & 64 bit)" or "SPECIAL TEMPORARY VERSION sparkPrimatte V4 for all IFFFS versions (32 & 64 bit)" in both the LINUX and SGI download sections. Users of versions earlier than V3 can use the V3 download and, later, be upgraded to V3 at no charge. These versions do not require a license key and will expire at the end of April 2010.
1. Uncompress the spark and install it in /usr/discreet/sparks/PRIMATTE after deleting the spark version that is already there. Make sure that permissions are open on the new spark.
